Ayushman Bharat Yojana Vs Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana: (PMJAY vs PMMVY)

India holds the 2nd position in the world in terms of population and this is the prime strength of the country. The government offers various schemes or services that provide financial assistance to poor, vulnerable, and economically weaker groups. Two such schemes are Ayushman Bharat Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY). The purposes are different for both schemes.

Major differences between Ayushman Bharat Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana

Ayushman Bharat Yojana (PMJAY)

This scheme was launched in September 2015 to cater to the interests of the poor population. The scheme offers financial support to more than 50 Crore poor citizens of India. The scheme provides Rs. 5 lakh sum insured to a poor family. The scheme offers coverage for various things including diagnostic costs, medications, pre-and post-hospitalization treatment costs, COVID-19 expenditures and all other secondary and tertiary healthcare procedures. The plan reimburses nearly 140 costlier treatment expenses such as knee replacement surgery, brain surgery, etc. All follow-up treatments are also covered by the plan. The scheme offers all daycare expenses and 50 types of cancer treatment processes.

Ayushman Bharat Yojana Eligibility Criteria

For the Ayushman Bharat Yojana scheme, the eligibility criteria are different for rural and urban people. 

For rural people, the eligibility criteria are:

  • Families without any members between 16 to 59 years
  • If any family doesn’t have any adult or earning members within the age group of 16 to 59 years
  • Families who are residing in one room kutcha house with walls and roof
  • Families who have one disabled member and no wholesome adult member
  • People of scrounger family

 

The eligibility criteria for urban people are:

  • Domestic helpers
  • Home-based tailors or handicraft workers or artisans or sanitation workers
  • Hawkers/ street vendors
  • Security guards/ construction workers/ welders/ coolies/ painters
  • Washer men/ masons/ plumbers
  • Cobblers
  • Mechanics/ repair workers/ electricians/ assemblers
  • Beggars
  • Waiters/ peons/ shop workers/ delivery assistants
  • Transport workers/ cart pullers/ conductors

 

Ayushman Bharat Yojana scheme or PMJAY embraces beneficiaries with cashless treatment facilities at the network or empaneled hospitals. To avail of this facility, all beneficiaries must have an Ayushman Bharat yojana card or gold card which they need to display at the time of hospitalization. To get the card, beneficiaries need to go for Ayushman Bharat Yojana Apply online and must follow the Ayushman Bharat Yojana registration processes carefully.

Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY)

PMMVY full form is Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, launched on 1st January 2017. This is a specially designed scheme for all pregnant women and lactating mothers (PW&LM). The scheme offers Rs. 5000 (three installments) into their bank accounts and post office accounts so that they can take care of their health in a better way.

PMMVY Benefits

  • All eligible beneficiaries will get Rs. 5000 cash in three installments (Rs.1,000, Rs.2,000, and Rs.2,000 respectively). But they need to fulfill all separate conditions of three installments and must submit the required documents.
  • All beneficiaries of this scheme will receive incentives (Rs. 6000) under the Janani Suraksha scheme.

 

PMMVY Scheme Details 

Pregnant women and lactating mothers who are not working with companies (private companies, PSUs, state and central government employees) are eligible for this scheme

All pregnant and lactating mothers who got pregnant for their first child on or after 1 January 2017

The stage and the date of the pregnancy will be calculated according to the date mentioned on the Mother and Child Protection (MCP) Card. The date and stage will be considered as per their last menstrual date.

In the case of Stillbirth or Miscarriage

In the case of stillbirth or miscarriage, the following conditions will be applicable

If the beneficiary experiences any miscarriage, she will only receive the first instalment. The second and third installments will be offered later during a future pregnancy. To receive the cash benefit, the beneficiary will meet the eligibility criteria.

  • If the beneficiary suffers from a miscarriage or stillbirth after receiving the second instalment, then she will get the final instalment in a future pregnancy.
  • The scheme is also eligible for lactating and pregnant Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA)/Anganwadi Helpers (AWHs)/ Anganwadi Worker women (AWW).
  • In case of infant mortality and if the beneficiary has received all three installments, then she can’t claim any benefits under the scheme.

 

How Can I Register Online for PMMVY?

  • For online application, the beneficiaries need to visit the website of https://pmmvy-cas.nic.in and log in by using PMMVY software.
  • Now, click on the ‘New Beneficiary’ tab to register the scheme and fill all the mentioned fields.
  • Beneficiaries need to log in again after 6 months by using PMMVY CAS software and click on the ‘Second Installment’ tab and fill the Form 1B.
  • Once your first child is born and after the completion of his/her first cycle of immunization, you need to click on the ‘Third Installment’ tab and fill the Form 1C.

 

By visiting an Anganwadi Centre (AWC) or an approved government health center within 150 days of LMP, a pregnant woman may register for the scheme offline. To check your PMMVY status, you must log in to PMMVY by using your login credentials. A new page will be displayed mentioning all beneficiary status details.
